Versailles

“Courtly manners are contagious; they are caught at Versailles.”,
Jean de la Bruyere

Versailles is the perfect example of a baroque palace: art was everywhere, and life was like a theatre play. Built in the XVII century and expanded in the XVIII century, it is surrounded by a breathtaking garden filled with fountains and sculptures covering over 8 square kilometers.

About the tour

Versailles can take up to one day if you plan on visiting everything. The shortest visit starts with the palace, the King’s chambers and the Hall of Mirrors, and finishes with a main view of the gardens. The longest one includes a thorough walk in the gardens, rich in decoration and hidden messages, and we can even visit the tiny town created by Marie Antoinette.

Louis XIV was crowned king when he was 5 years old, and France was going through hardship. The nobles used this opportunity to remove him from power, but he managed to survive. He moved the Court from Paris to this palace and was able to control his former enemies. This, and the artistic excellence of Versailles, make it one of the single most important buildings in Europe.

Seeing art is not the same as knowing art. Let yourself be carried away on this visit to Versailles and learn while enjoying yourself, focusing your attention on the beauty of the works instead of on the palace and gardens map. Come back from Paris with a memory that will last forever.
